Told Truman that the soviets would back down if the US proved more powerful

12th march 1947- Truman asked for 400 million in military/ economic assistance to help Greece fight soviets in Iran
Showed- resistance to communism
Military commitment to defend countries faced with takeover (not just communist)

Berlin blockade
25th march 1948 Stalin cut the allies out of the east by blockading dye to ‘technical difficulties’
America supplied the needs of 25 million people with 1.5 million tons of goods
Lasted 324 days
China
Japan invaded 1931 Civil war began 1946 Nationalists V communists USA didn't support the nationalists 1st October china became communists
Indochina
Indochina is a partly communist party who in 1930 fought for independence from France
USA supported France but the communists still won
Korean War
1945-53 Korea was split between the soviets and the USA SOUTH- USA NORTH- SOVIETS 1945-50 south suffered (civil war) June 25th 1950- south was invaded
Truman ordered the navy into action
1953- agreement caused the 2 halves to separate & the UN support the south
Japan
Japan surrendered 14th August 1945, 5 days after the atomic bombs
350,000 USA troops were sent into Japan with Douglas MacArthur who was given doctoral power to transform Japan
From 1949-52 communists were banned from gov
Japan was now more economically powerful than china
