The USA people were hysterical so created NASA and launched a small satellite January 58
U2
U2- a spy plane which took photos
Ike worried about it but the CIA reassured him
2 years of successful flights then shot down in 1960 by soviets
Hungary
1956 Hungary’s anti-Soviet protests began
soviets sent in tanks and 250,000 soldiers
USA didn’t give the expected support
Vietnam
Vietnam was communist fighting for independence from France
the USA supported France and gave $2 billion
Israel
USA stayed out of conflict by not providing weapons to either side
wanted to gain Arab friends so provided aid
Korea
after the election in 1952 Ike flew to Korea he saw communist was well established
wanted to exit the stalemate
many disagreed (Nixon and Dulles)
but Ike pressed for peace with China
