    • May have details in your Event Viewer
  • Heat related issue
    • High CPU or Graphics, Gaming
    • Check all fans & Heat sinks
    • BIOS may show fan status & temperatures
  • Failing Hardware
    • Check device manager , run diagnostics
    • Eliminate what’s working

  • System completely stops
    • Usually not much in Event Log
    • Similar to unexpected shutdown
  • Checks for any activity
    • hard drive , status lights , try Ctrl - Alt - Del

Power On Self Test

POST

A
  • Test major system component before booting OS
    • Main systems (CPU , CMOS , etc)
    • Video
    • Memory
  • Failures are noted with beeps and / or codes
    • BIOS versions can differ
  • Don’t bother memorizing beep codes
    • Different between manufacturers
    • Know what to do when you hear them

    • BIOS only? OS splash screen
  • Bad driver or configuration
    • F8 , “Boot from last known working Configuration”
  • Try F8 , SafeMode
