  • lesion of the trigeminal nerve
  • etiology unknown or can result from compression
  • occurs in older adults (over 50)
  • abrupt onset

A
  • brief paroxysms of neurogenic pain along distribution of CN V (usually mandibular or maxillary division)
  • reoccurring frequently
  • unilateral

  • trigger points: light touch
  • triggering stimuli: extremes of heat or cold, chewing, talking, brushing teeth, movement of air across the face
  • motor function: control is normla
