A

acute inflammatory process of unknown etiology resulting in compression of the nerve within the temporal bone

signs and symptoms

A
  • muscle of facial expression on one side are weakened or paralyzed
  • loss of control of salivation or lacrimation
  • onset is acute, with maximum severity in a few hours or days
  • may be proceeded by pain behind the ear
