trigeminal nerve 1 Flashcards
divisions of trigeminal nerve and type of info it sends
ophthalmic (CN V1) –> sensory info
maxillary (CN V2) –> sensory info
mandibular (CN V3) –> sensory and motor info
where does the divisions of the trigeminal nerve exit the crainum
ophthalmic (CN V1) –> SOF
maxillary (CN V2) –> foramen rotudum
mandibular (CN V3) –> foramen ovale
what type of sensory info does the trigeminal nerve divisions send
skin on face
what info does the mandibular division of trigeminal nerve (CN V3) send
sensation from:
- side of head
- skin of face over mandible
- lower lip
- mandibular teeth
- temporomandibular joint
- muscosa (Floor) of mouth
- anterior 2/3 of tongue
branches of mandibular division (CN V3) after passing through the foramen ovale
- auriculotemporal nerve
- inferior alveolar nerve
- buccal nerve
- lingual nerve
- muscular branches (masseter, temporalis, medial/lateral pterygoid)
- through mandibular foramen –> branch to inferior dental plexus
through mental foramen terminates as mental nerve
motor branches of mandibular division of trigeminal nerve
- masseter
- temporalis
- medial pterygoid
- lateral pterygoid
pathway of branches of mandibular division (just notes I had)
- auricultemporal –> medial to mandible to head posteriorly
- lingual –> anterior to oral cavity, sensation to tongue and roof of mouth
- mental nerve –> exits through mental foramen, sensation to lower lip/teeth and chin
- buccal nerve –> anterior to oral cavity, cutaneous sensation of cheek
