Trichomonas vaginalis – protozoan

1st line treatment for Trich (including pregnancy)
A
Flagyl 2g PO x 1 dose

Tx of Trich in HIV patients
A
Flagyl 500mg PO BID x 7 days

Clinical diagnosis of BV requires 3 of the following 4 criteria:
A
- Presence of thin, white vaginal discharge
- “Clue cells” on microscopy
- Vaginal fluid pH > 4.5
- Positive “whiff test” - fishy odor of vaginal discharge

1st line treatment for BV
A
Flagyl 500mg PO BID x 7 days
Flagyl 0.75% gel - 5g applicator intravaginally QD x 5 days
Clindamycin 2% cream - 5g applicator intravaginally QHS x 7 days
