Triage Flashcards
There are four triage categories
Red - Immediate
Yellow - Delayed
Green - Minor
Expectant - Black
Immediate priority patients
These patients are first priority and should be transported first. Any problems with ABC’s, shock, severe burns, decreased LOC, severe underlying medical problems, spinal cord injuries, or chest/abdominal injuries would make these patients red category.
Delayed priority patients
These patients need treatment and transport but are not critical. These would include burns that will not affect the airway, bone and joint injuries, or back injuries without spinal cord damage.
Minor priority patients
These are commonly called the “walking wounded” because they are categorized by their ability to walk, and require minimal or no treatment. Examples would include minor fractures or non critical soft tissue injuries.
Upgrading and downgrading
You can always raise a patients status (ex. yellow up to red) but you cannot lower it.
