What is the medical incident command?
Medical IC consists of a medical IC director who is in charge. Below them are the triage supervisor, treatment supervisor, the transportation supervisor, the staging supervisor, the rehabilitation supervisor, the extrication supervisor and the morgue supervisor.
The triage supervisor’s role
Their job is counting and prioritizing patients. This person will continue and not treat until everyone has been tagged.
The treatment supervisor’s role
This person will located and setup a treatment area with different tiers for different patient priorities. This person is mainly in charge of supplies and making sure sufficient personal and equipment is available.
The transportation supervisor’s role
To coordinate the transportation and distribution of patients to appropriate receiving hospitals so that no center is overwhelmed.
The staging supervisor’s role
This job is assigned when numerous emergency response agencies respond to a scene, in order to coordinate a singular effort.
The rehabilitation supervisor’s role
This persons job is to secure an area for first responders in the event that a mass casualty incident will take a significant amount of time to resolve. Basically a resting spot.
The extrication supervisor’s role
To oversee what resources are needed for extrication and what personnel.
The morgue supervisor’s role
This persons job is to work with the medical examiner and coroners to coordinate the removal of bodies and secure dead bodies.
