How to choose species?

A

Copy other species near site.
Urban areas - trees that are pollution resistant.
Consider eventual height and any power lines.
Fallen fruits
Large leaves make pavement slippery.
Resistance to p&d.

A

Bare root- dormant season.
Container trees all year round.

Different types of planting?

A

Notch - open slit in soil with spade, slide tree in.
Pit - square so roots don’t girdle. Twice the width of the roots so they have room to spread out.
Mound - create mound and plant tree

Methods of protection?

A

Fence, spiral guard, stake.

Aftercare?

A

Water.
Check stake annually.
Loosen tree tie as tree expands.
Mulch at least once a year to help hold moisture in soil.
