Fungi Flashcards
What is brown rot?
Breaks down cellulose, leaving behind brown lignin, often in cubical form
What is white rot?
Breaks down lignin, leaving behind white fibrous material
What is soft rot?
Breaks down cellulose and causes cavitation in cell walls, leaching spongy remains
Invasive decay detection?
Decay detecting drill, increment borer, resistograph.
Non invasive decay detection?
Sonic tomography, sound hammer
Control methods, safety measures after detecting decay?
Warning signs, physical barriers, removal of targets, pruning and felling, restraint and support systems.
Colonisation strategies of fungus?
Heart rot, active pathogenesis, specialised opportunism (sapwood intact), unspecialised opportunism (sapwood exposed)
