Pharmacological Therapies
using other drugs to lessen or eliminate drug use. (nicotine patches, drug substitution, methadone)
Individual counselling
uses counselling that is not developed to deal with addiction but is adapted. (freudian, brief solution, feminist, narrative, confrontation)
Intervention (coercive)
direct conversation about drug use, friends and family members prepare statements to tell about the impact the addiction has had on them
Group Counselling
based on recognition that substance abusers can help eachother. reduces social isolation, stigma. (forming, storming, norming, performing, mourning)
Family Counselling
family is an organic whole. comprised of those who identify as a family and whose behavior is influenced.
