GABA (Gaba Aminobutyne Acid)
Inhibitory, calms anxiety, alcohol binds to receptor increasing effect. Too little: Depression
Endorphins
Inhibitory amino acids. functions like morphine. Locks into receptor site and blocks pain chemicals
Serotonin
Emotional arousal and sleep. Not enough - insomnia and anxiety. Possibly links to alcoholism, eating disorders and agression
Norepinephrine
transmitter and hormone. excitatory; speeds heart and general arousal. too much or too little leads to mood disorders. Cocaine and speed increase norepinephrine
Dopamine
ability to perceive pleasure; voluntary movement, learning & memory. Too little: parkinsons and alzheimers. Too much: hallucinations and schizophrenia
