Treatements For CVD Flashcards
What are the 4 treatments you need to know (APSAPI)
Antihypertensives
Plant Statins
Anticoagulants
Platelet Inhibitors
What do antihypertensives do?
Reduce the blood pressure
What are the benefits of antihypertensives?
Risk of CVD is substantially lowered
What are the risks of antihypertensives?
Blood pressure may become too low, leading to falls and injuries.
Coughing, swelling of the ankles, tiredness, constipation.
What do plant statins do?
Lower the level of cholesterol in the blood, by blocking the production of LDL
What are the benefits of plant statins?
Helps improve balance of LDL and HDL, reduces atherosclerosis
What are the risks of plant statins?
Muscle and joint aches, nausea, constipation and diarrohoea.
Muscle inflammation that may be fatal
What do anticoagulants do?
Interferes which manufacture of prothrombin, makes the blood clot less easily
What are the benefits of anticoagulants?
Reduces blood clots
What are the risks of anticoagulants?
Internal bleeding
What do platelet inhibitors do?
Make platelets less sticky, reducing blood clotting ability
What are the benefits of platelet inhibitors?
Reduce the risk of developing CVD
What are the risks of platelet inhibitors?
Irritates the stomach lining and causes bleeding
