Xing Su San
Ingredients and Sx
(gently disperse and moisten dryness)
Externally Contracted Cool Dryness
Sx: Sl HA ; Chills w o sweat ; stiffy nose ; dry throat ; cough w watery sputum
Tongue: dry, white coat
Pulse: wiry (bc cold stag qi)
Chief: Xing Ren - moisten LU, descend LU Qi ; Zi Su Ye - opens qi of LU, gently releases ext.
Deputy: Qian Hu - treats phlegm in the LU esp when cold in LU is moving toward bronchitis ; Jie Geng - aerates the chest, opens movement of Qi in LU ; Zhi Ke - opens lower rib cage and qi of chest.
Asst: Chen Pi, Fu Ling, Zhi Ban Xia - er chen tang (-gan cao) regulate qi of MJ, the fulcrum of the qi dynamic, to transform phlegm.
Envoy: three amigos, Sheng Jiang, Da Zao , Gan Cao - harmonize Ying and Wei (and Rx)
Etiology: cool dryness invading the interior obstructs the Wei Qi: the cool pathogen stagnates fluids. The Dry pathogen dries out fluids. Results in phlegm and dryness.
Sang Xing Tang
ingredients and Sx

Exterior Warm Dryness Affecting the LU -
Sx: Moderate fever ; HA ; thirst ; dry, hacking cough or scanty thick sticky sputum ; dry nose/throat.
Tongue: red, thin dry white coat
Pulse: floating & rapid
Chief: Sang Ye & Xing Ren - regulate and moisten LU while dredging exterior & release ext
Deputy: Zhi Zi & Dou Chi - relieve constrained heat, w Sang Ye clear heat and keep pathogen from going deeper.
Zhe Bei Mu - Frittilariae Thungbergi Bulbous - Tx Phlegm - clears phlegm to avoid stagnation. w Xing Ren goes to Intestines and LU, directs Qi downward.
Assts: Sha Shen & Li Pi (pear skin) nourish yin and clear heat
Qing Zao Jiu Fei Tang - Clear Dryness and Rescue the LU

Warm dryness attacking the LU
Sx: HA ; fever (significant) ; hacking cough ; wheezing ; dry/parched throat ; dry nasal passages ; sensation of fullness in chest ; hypochondriac pain ; irritability ; thirst (significant) [echoes of 4 bigs]
tongue: dry, no coat
pules: deficient, big, rapid
Chief: Sang Ye - clears and disperses dryness from LU, releases lingering ext heat.
Deputy: Shi Gao - clear heat from LU ; Mai Men Dong - sweet and cooling, nourishes yin by generating yang fluids.
Assts: e jiao - nourish LU Yin ; hei zhi ma - mourish blood, nourish LV/KD the lower source of fluid ; xing ren - moistens LU, descends LU Qi ; Pi Pa Ye - cools LU, stops cough ; Ren Shen - supplement mother (SP) to benefit child (LU), generate fluids and tonify MJ.
Envoy: Gan Cao - harmonize
Etiology: W H enters the wei level -> enters qi level -> dries out LU. Started as wind and heat NOT as dryness. Dryness became main pathogen as a result of WH.
Mai Men Dong Tang
ingredients and Sx
(enrich yin and moisten dryness)
LU and/or ST Yin Xu of LU atrophy (fei wei)
Sx: coughing and spitting of saliva ; wheezing ; SOB ; dry uncomfortable sensation in the throat, both phlegm and dryness in the throat - dry mouth.
Tongue: dry, red, no or little coat
Pulse: rapid, deficient
Chief: Mai Men Dong - nourish LU/ST yin, provide healthy fluids to UJ/upper source of yin, also calms HT.
Deptuy: Ren Shen - tonify metabolic energy of LU/ST - gives energy to LU/ST for them to do their work. Together MMD and RS powerful combo for reviving the qi and yin of LU/ST.
Assts: Ban Xia - transforms phlegm, transforms pathological fluids while MMD and RS are transforming/nourishing healthy fluids. Acrid and dispersing nature helps to redirect Qi flow.
Da Zao, Gan Cao, Geng Mi - together asst ST Qi and generate fluids

Deputy: Yu Zhu, Tain Hua Fen.

Xiao Ke Syndrome - Wasting/Thirsting - Diabetes type-1
Sx: excessive thirst not quenched by substantial intake of fluids ; frequent, copious or turbid urine ; lassitude ; SOB.
Pulse: deficient, thin, weak
Chief: Shan Yao, Huang Qi.
Deputy: Zhi Mu, Tian Hua Fen.
Asst: Ji Nei Jin, Ge Gen, Wu Wei Zi.
