Qiang Huo Sheng Shi Tang

A

Wind Dampness at the Exterior

Chief: Qiang Huo-Notopterygium Rhz seu Rx- upperbody dampness, releases acute WCD, goes to occiput (WARE)
Du Huo - Angelicae Pubescentis Rx - acute or chronic ED, goest to lower body. W/QH entire spine. (dispel WD)

Deputy: Gao Ben - Ligustici Rhz - WC HA at top of head - jue yin HA (WARE)
Fang Feng - Saposhnikoviae Rx - Assits QH/DH to go deeper to myo and releases exterior (WARE)

Assit: Chuan Xiong - shao yang HA (invig bld)
Man Jing Zi - Viticus Fructus - goes to eyes, counters heat (CARE)

envoy: zhi Gan Cao

Sx: heavy painful head, general heaviness, difficulty rotating and bending.

TONGUE: white coat
PULSE: floating

etiology: WC -> damp interior -> damp shunted to joints to avoid HT/KD yang damage

(expel wind damp)

Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang

A

Tai Yin Syndrome caused by MJ deficiency.

Water Qi Harassing the HT

Chief: Fu Ling - (rare!) strengthen SP qi, leach damp through urine, descends turbid yin (by promo urino). also calms HT.

Deputy: Gui Zhi - warms tissues, descends, assists yang of the HT.

Assistant: Bai Zhu - tonify SP, transform damp

Envoy: zhi Gan Cao - harmonizes, also sweet + acrid = yang tonic (GC + GZ = Yang tonic)

Sx: fullness in chest, palpitations, SOB, cough up clear sputum, dizziness.

TONGUE: pale, swollen, white greasy coat.
PULSE: slippery or wiry/soggy

internal etiology: SP Yang def -> fluids accumulating in MJ -> harassing the HT -> clear yang not rising

(warm and transform water and damp)

Juan Bi Tang

A

Bi Zheng -
Painful obstruction in a Qi/Blood deficient patient.

Sx: joint pain, worse w cold, heaviness and numbness of the limbs

TONGUE: thick white coat
PULSE: slippery

Gui Zhi Shao Yao Zhi Mu Tang

A

Bi Zheng caused by obstruction of wind dampness and formation of Heat.

Chief: gui zhi - release wc from flesh

deputy: bai shao, zhi mu, ma huang, fu zi
assit: fang feng, bai zhu
envoy: sheng jiang, gan cao.

Sx: swollen apinful joints, warm to the touch and worse at night. reduced ROM in affected joints. chills w no sweat. HA, dizziness.
(like Rheumatoid arthritis)

TONGUE: white greasy coat
PULSE: wire, slippery

etiology: WCD -> tai yang -> generating heat

Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang

A

chronic Bi Zheng due to LV/DK insufficiency and qi/blood deficiency.

Chief: Du Huo

deputy: Xi Xin, Fang Feng, Qin Jiao

Assist: Sang Ji Sheng, Du Zhong (together create ease) Niu Xi, Rou Gui. Si Wu Tang (dang gui, chuan xiong, sheng di, bai shao) Si Jun Zi Tang (ren shen, fu ling gan cao [no bai zhu])

Sx: heavy and painful fixed location LBP and extremities w weakness and stiffness, aversion to cold, palpitations, SOB.

TONGUE: pale w white coat
PULSE: thin, weak slow

etiology: deficiency of LV and KD and QI and Blood with chronic damp bi.
this formula has shi quan da bu tang (si jun zi tang + si wu tang [which is Ba Zhen Tang] + rou gui)

Er Chen Tang

A

damp phlegm accumulation

Chief: Ban Xia - clears phlegm everywhere, also descends  
Ju Hong (or chen pi) normalize movement of Qi and breaks up phlegm. 

Deputy: fu ling - discharge pathogenic fluids via urine and strengthen SP.

Assist: Zhi Gan Cao - tonify SP

envoys sometimes added: Sheng Jiang to harmonize ST and Wu Mei to treat dissipation of LU Qi.

Sx: cough w copoius sputum, easily expectorated. Stifling sensation in chest, nausea, vomiting, dizziness

TONGUE: swollen w thick greasy coat
PULSE: full, slippery

etiology: SP/LU fail to transform and transport the fluids, which accumulate and form phlegm -> further encumbering SP.

(dry damp and expel phlegm)

Wen Dan Tang

A

GB/ST disharmony w phlegm heat

er chen tang + Zhu Rhu and Zhi Shi

Chief: Ban Zia - dries damp, directs downwards

deputy: Zhu Ru enters ST/GB to stop nausea and calm spirit, alleviate irritability.

Assit: Zhi Shi - directs qi downward
chen pi - dries damp expels phlegm
fu ling - promo urino - strenthen SP
Gan Cao - ton SP

prepared w: sheng jiang, maybe da zao - harmonize

Sx: dizzy vertigo nausea vomiting palpitations all w copious phlegm and focal distention in chest.

TONGUE: greasy yellow coat
OULSE rapid and slippery or wire

etiology: disharmony bw GB and ST w phlegm heat obstructing the qi dynamic.

(dry dampness and transform phlegm)
