Q

what occur if you dont learn tthe skill/function in its specidic sensitive period

A

the flexability means that if exposed to the right environment, the skill be able to develop but it will be a lengthier and difficult process

Q

example of sensitive period skill

A

second language acquisition, its much easier to learn a second language up until the age of 12, as an adult grammar rules and level of fluency will not be as developed as if it was learnt as a child

15
Q

how does traumatic brain injury occur/why is it harmful

A

when a persons head is hit hard enough the cerebrospinal fluid is not enough of a cushion to stop the brain from hitting the surrounding membranes or bones of the skull, this causes damage to the delicate brain tissue (e.g swelling, bruising, bleeding, tearing, increased pressure)

16
Q

how is the damage of traumatic brain injury classified

A

how long a person loses consciousness, ranging from momentary loss to falling into a coma

17
Q

cerebrospinal fluid

A

the clear fluid surrounding and protecting the brain

18
Q

non-traumatic brain injury

A

damage to the brain caused by internal factors such as a lack of oxyggen or a tumour

19
Q

what occurs during a stroke

A

either an interruption to the blodd supply in the brain or bleeding from blood vessels in the brain, blood carriers oxygen and nutrients to the brain o therefore neurons and other brain cells die
