16
Q

Portion of bone driven into adjacent segment

A

impaction/compression fracture

17
Q

What is this?

A

impaction/compression fracture (can see a “white zone of impaction”)

18
Q

Which fracture is caused by repetitive stress?

A

stress fracture

19
Q

Where are stress fractures most common?

A

2nd metatarsal

20
Q

Stress fractures through diseased bone is termed?

A

insufficiency fracture

21
Q

What is this?

A

stress fracture

22
Q

What is this?

A

stress fracture

23
Q

What is a bone bruise/occult fracture?

A

-clinical signs and symptoms of fracture without there being xray evidence of fracture
-follow up xrays are usually taken 5-10 days post injury and may show bony resorption or frank displacement
-can be seen on MRI

24
Q

What is the most common site for a bone bruise/occult fracture?

A

scaphoid bone of hand

25
Q

What is the 2nd most common site for a bone bruise/occult fracture?

26
Q

What is the other name for pseudo fracture?

A

Loser’s lines

27
Q

Why is a pseudo fracture not a true fracture?

A

-thought to be due to vascular pulsations or due to insufficiency (demineralization)
-represents areas of uncalcified osteoid (bone softening conditions)

28
Q

Diagonal break cross bone is called an….

A

oblique fracture

29
Q

Where are oblique fractures commonly seen?

A

shaft of bone

30
Q

Which fracture is 45 degrees to the long axis of bone?

A

oblique fractures

31
Q

What is another name for spiral fracture?

A

rotation fracture

32
Q

Torsion along with axial compression and angulation causes a _________ fracture

33
Q

The end of spiral fracture looks like what?

A

pointed pencil

34
Q

A spiral fracture spirals around the bone which is common in what injuries?

35
Q

What are the other names for transverse fracture?

A

-banana
-chalk
-carrot stick
-pathological***

36
Q

Which fracture is uncommon in healthy bones?

A

transverse fracture

37
Q

What are the radiological features of fracture healing?

A

first 5 days:
-resorption of fracture line
-results in increased width of actual fracture line

10-15 days later
-veil of new bone is formed adjacent to fracture site called a callus

callus formation remodeled width filling in of cortical break

healing process takes 4-6 weeks for young patient, 6-12 weeks for older patient

end result is complete absence of fracture line
