Trauma-related disorders Flashcards
What is ASD, and what is the relationship between ASD and PTSD
ASD = PTSD that is demonstrated in a shorter onset (3 days to 1 month)
Bryant et al showed that only small portions of the patients with ASD develop into PTSD
What are the diagnostic criteria of PTSD, what is bracket creep, what is moral injury
criterion A: experiencing or being exposed to traumatic events (watching on TV does not count)
criterion B: reoccurring of intrusive thoughts of the event
criterion C: avoidance or attempts to avoid locations or the reoccurrence of the event
criterion D: significantly worsening of the mood compared to pre-event
criterion E: alternations in arousal towards the event
bracket creep: there are more combinations to diagnosing PTSD in the DSM-V, compared to the ancestors > showing that there maybe an occurrence of over-diagnosing
moral injury: psychological distress when their moral expectations are violated by own or others’ behaviours
What is the epidemiology of PTSD
females are more likely to develop PTSD after experiencing traumatic events than male
since their events are more likely to be personal than males (e.g., sexual assault)
what are the four elements that PTSD patients are more likely to have
substance use
emotional lability
self harm
physical complain
