PTSD 14 (1122)
requires person to be exposed to an event that either involved actual or threatened death, serious injury, sexual violence.
can be exposed in following ways:
- directly
- knowing details about what happened to someone else
- witnessing it happen to someone
a person has symptoms from each of the 4 categories, lasting over 1 month
intrusion (1)
avoidance or distancing (1)
negative mood 2
arousal 2
what are some of the symptoms within each of the 4 main groups of symptoms of PTSD
intrusion
-flashbacks, frightening thoughts, nightmares
avoidance
-changing behaviors to avoid triggers or situations
negative mood
-shame, guilt, depressed feelings, loss of pleasure, loss of enjoyment
arousal
- feeling on edge
- always feeling alert
- having angry outbursts
- feeling tense and jittery regularly
Reactive attachment disorder 52
symptoms (must be 2)
symptoms start before age 5 (but min. 9 months old)
**has to be a history of grossly insufficient care
(neglect, abuse, transfers to multiple care-takers)
characterized by lack of responsiveness and affect toward caregivers, very withdrawn, depressed like
disinhibited social engagement disorder 29
characterized by child’s abnormal behavior of going with strangers, approaching strangers, interacts and approaches adult strangers without hesitation
**must have history of grossly insufficient care
must have 2 symptoms
developmental age of 9m
risk factors of ptsd
prior mental health dissociation during and after trauma severity of trauma level of percieved threat lack of social support female gender younger age lower education lower SES
acute stress disorder 319
at least 3 days
up to 1 month (past this, becomes PTSD diagnosis)
9 symptoms
(can be from any of categories of the ptsd symptom categories)
adjustment disorders 36
there has to be an identifiable psychosocial stressor that occured, resulting in symptoms appearing after
symptoms within 3 months from onset of stressor
remits within 6 months after stressor
(if symptoms dont start until after 3 months, consider the specified/unspecified trauma and stressor related disorder)
cannot be due to another mental disorder, or an expansion of another pre-existing disorder
the distress and impairment experienced must be excessively beyond what would be expected with a given stressor
