Dissociative Disorders Flashcards
Dissociative Identity Disorder
discontinuity of self
person must flip between 2 (or more) distinct “identities”
identities each have their own changes in patterns such as affect, behavior, thought processes, consciousness, motor-skills, memory
dissociative amnesia
be very careful to rule out neurocognitive disorders!
characterized by inability to recall important personal information that is usually about a specific event or period, such as going through a traumatic event
does not include general amnesia of ones entire life and self
depersonalization/derealization disorder
symptoms of being outside of ones self detachment from body, or surroundings and environment
screen for depressive disorders first!!!
reality testing remains intact
(if reality testing is poor, person may be having something else, like delirium or a neurocognitive disorder)
