2 weeks, 5 symptoms total, 1 essential symptoms
1 essential : either depressed mood, loss of pleasure in life
other symptoms: Fatigue, trouble sleeping, weight issues, appetite, guilt, death wishes, suicidal thoughts
Hypomanic 43
at least 4 days
3 symptoms of mania
manic symptoms
extreme, absurd behavior based on:
Abnormally upbeat, jumpy or wired Increased activity, energy or agitation Exaggerated sense of well-being and self-confidence (euphoria) Decreased need for sleep Unusual talkativeness Racing thoughts Distractibility Poor decision-making — for example, going on buying sprees, taking sexual risks or making foolish investments
Manic Episode (full) 73
a week or more, symptoms occur every day
pressured and rapid speech , heightened self esteem , increased motor activity
Intense “drivenness” - intensity is key here, intense goal-directed activity or pressure to get something done, intense way of talking - flight of ideas, - intense and fanatical appearance
Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder - 10<1617
symptoms start before age 10, duration at least 1 year,
only for ages 6-17
ongoing depression “disrupted” by events of intense tantrums and angry outbursts/ angry outbursts interrupt the depression
in-between outbursts person is irritable or quite depressed
must be impaired functioning with life
Dysthymia (persistent depressive mood disorder) 222
the name gives this one away (cue: persistent)
the depression is always there, people can have major depressive episodes, but its not required.
2 years or more, never ceasing for more than 2 months at a time, and has 2 specifiers
cyclothymia
cue: cycle
does not meet requirements for full manic, hypomanic or major depressive episodes, but symptoms are similar or the same, but duration is less.
key here is that people cycle between depressive and manic symptoms off and on
Bi-Polar 1
cue: 1st place fanatic
manic episode is required
there can be more than one.
can also coincide with depressive symptoms
Bi-Polar 2
cue: 2 (for 2 types)
major depressive + hypomanic episode (1 of each is essential)
health conditions that mimic mood symptoms
Endocrine disorders, thyroid are some common health issues that can actually cause depression and bipolar like symptoms

note: MDE is not a diagnosis. but having 1 MDE counts as Major depressive disorder
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder 1 (7) 511
during week before menstrual period at least 5 total symptoms
must be 1 of: marked affective lability, depressed mood, anxiety, irritability, increased interpersonal conflict
must be 1 of: decreased interest in usual activities, lethargy, issues concentrating, physical symptoms, changes in appetite, insomnia, hypersomnia, feeling overwhelmed
must have these 5 symptoms for most menstrual periods for at least a year
