TRANSPORTS IN PLANT Flashcards
Define Transports in Plant?
Transport in Plants is the process by which water, minerals, and nutrients are moved throughout the plant.
This movement occurs primarily through two types of tissues: xylem, which carries water and minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant, and phloem, which distributes the food produced by photosynthesis from the leaves to other parts of the plant.
What is the function of the xylem in plants?
Xylem Function:
• Transports water and dissolved minerals from roots to leaves.
• Provides structural support due to its thick cell walls.
What is the function of the phloem in plants?
• Phloem Function:
• Transports nutrients, particularly sucrose, from the leaves to other parts of the plant.
• Supports the growth of the plant by distributing the products of photosynthesis.
What is transpiration?
Transpiration is the process of water evaporation from the leaves, which helps draw water up through the plant from the roots via the xylem.
