FORMS OF ENERGY Flashcards
Definition of Energy?
Energy is the ability to do work or produce change. It’s exist in various forms and can be converted from one form to another.
Forms of Energy and explain with examples
Mechanical Energy : is the energy associated with the motion and position of an object .eg. kinetic energy.(of motion), Potential energy (of position)
Chemical: Energy stored in the bonds of chemical compounds. Energy stored in food, batteries.
• Electrical Energy:
• Definition: Energy associated with the movement of electrons through a conductor.
• Examples: Electricity from batteries, power lines, electrical devices.
•
Light (Radiant) Energy:
• Definition: Energy that can be seen and sensed as light.
• Examples: Sunlight, light bulbs, lasers.
•
Nuclear Energy:
• Definition: Energy stored in the nucleus of an atom.
• Examples: Energy released in nuclear reactions (fission, fusion).
•
Sound Energy:
• Definition: Energy produced by vibrations that travel through a medium (such as air, water, or solids).
• Examples: Sound waves from musical instruments, voices, speakers.
Definition of Energy Transformation:
Definition: Energy transformation is the process of changing one form of energy into another form.
Provide some common energy transformations
Electrical to Light: Example - Light bulbs convert electrical energy into light energy.
Solar to Electrical: Example - Solar panels convert sunlight (solar energy) into electrical energy.
Kinetic to Potential: Example - Lifting an object against gravity converts kinetic energy into potential energy.
