MEASUREMENT Flashcards
Definition of Measurement
Measurement is the process of quantifying observations using standard units
Define Base units and give examples with their base units
are fundamental units used to measure physical quantities:
Length: Meter (m)
• Mass: Kilogram (kg)
• Time: Second (s)
• Electric Current: Ampere (A)
• Temperature: Kelvin (K)
• Amount of Substance: Mole (mol)
• Luminous Intensity: Candela (cd)
Derived Units
are units obtained from combinations of base units:
• Area: Square meter (m²)
• Volume: Cubic meter (m³)
• Velocity: Meter per second (m/s)
• Acceleration: Meter per second squared (m/s²)
• Density: Kilogram per cubic meter (kg/m³)
• Force: Newton (N) (kg·m/s²)
Common Measurement Tools and their uses
Ruler or Meter Stick: Used to measure length or distance.
• Balance or Scale: Used to measure mass.
• Stopwatch or Timer: Used to measure time.
• Thermometer: Used to measure temperature.
• Graduated Cylinder: Used to measure volume of liquids.
