Q

White bloodcells

A

White blood cells fight infection, Some white blood cells surround
micro-organisms and destroy them and other white blood cells form proteins called antibodies. Antibodies help to destroy micro-organisms that have entered the body. Antibodies are very important in fighting infection.

A

help to form blood clots. In this way they help to prevent:
• Loss of blood, Micro-organisms entering the body.

Q

Heart

A

The heart contracts in order to pump blood around our body in blood vessels. The force of this blood in an artery causes a pulse.

made of a special type of muscle called cardiac muscle. Cardiac muscle is very strong and does not tire easily. ‘Cardiac’ means anything related to the heart.

Q

Right ventricle

A

The right ventricle pumps blood from the heart to the lungs. This is a reasonably short distance, and so the muscular walls of the right ventricle are fairly thin.

16
Q

What is the pulse

A

When blood is pumped through the arteries, the pressure causes the arteries to expand.
This wave of pressure is called a pulse.

17
Q

What happens to blood in our lungs

A

Gains oxygen and loses CO2 and water

18
Q

What happens to blood in our intestines

A

Gains food water and carbon dioxide, loses oxygen

19
Q

What happens to blood in our head and arms

A

Gains CO2 and water, loses food and O2

20
Q

What happens to blood in lower body/ legs

A

Gains CO2 and water, loses O2 and food
