Transport in Plants Flashcards
The three main reasons for plant transport systems - state
Metabolic systems
Size and surface area: Volume ratio
Metabolic demands -
Many parts of the plant do not produce their own food or their removal of waste products are needed by hormones and these are transported elsewhere.
Size (plant transport systems) -
Larger plants require transport systems need transport systems because diffusion or removal of waste without transport systems is not enough, larger size organisms require effective transport systems to help move substances both up and down from the tip of the roots to the topmost of leaves.
Surface area: volume ratio for needed transport systems -
Genuinely small SA:V ratios, so they cannot rely on diffusion alone to supply their cells with everything the need.
