What are risk factors for bladder tumours?
Age, male, Caucasian, exposure to dyes/rubber/leather/textiles/paint, smoking, cyclophosphamide
What are the clinical manifestations of bladder cancer?
Painless visible haematuria, urgency, suprapubic/pelvic mass/pain, recurrent UTI
What is the gold standard investigation?
Cystoscopy + biopsy
What other investigations would you do?
Bloods, urine MS&C, US
What are some differential diagnoses?
BPH, haemorrhagic cystitis, prostatis
How do you manage bladder cancer?
Transurethral resection of the bladder tumour, chemotherapy, cystodiathermy, cystectomy, psychosocial factors
What is a potential complication of cystectomy?
Sexual and urinary malfunction
What are potential complications of bladder tumours?
Massive bladder haemorrhage, mets to lymph nodes/bones/lungs/liver
What is Tis?
Carcinoma in situ
What is Ta?
Tumour confined to epithelium
What is T1?
Tumour in submucosa or lamina propria
What is T2?
Invades muscle
What is T3?
Extends into perivesical fat
What is T4?
Invades adjacent organs
What is grade 1?
Differentiated
