Transcription Flashcards
What does RNA polymerase form and how does it do it?
Forms mRNA strand (template) by joining nucleotides together
What is RNA Polymerase responsible for?
Transcription as it moves along the gene, unwinding and opening the DNA strand
What are non coding regions on mRNA called?
Introns
What are coding regions on mRNA called?
Exons
What is the primary transcript called after the non coding sections have been removed?
Mature transcript
How can a single mature transcript of mRNA produce many different proteins?
Alternative splicing.
State which each four sides of a tRNA molecule can bind to
One side binds to mRNA (anti codeon)
2nd side binds to ribosome
3rd side binds to a specific amino acid
4th side binds to enzymes controlling the process
How does the mature mRNA transcript exit the nucleus?
Via a nuclear pore.
Where do mature mRNA transcripts go once they exit the nucleus?
To a ribosome in the cytoplasm to be translated
