B Lymphocytes Flashcards
What are B cells activated by?
What helps them?
Activated by antigen presenting cells (phagocytes)
T lymphocytes help.
What do T lymphocytes do to help stimulate B lymphocytes?
They release cytokines which stimulates the B cells to multiply
When B cells multiply, what do they produce?
A clone of activated B cells which makes antibodies for immediate use
A clone of memory B cells capable of making antibodies in future if required.
What is an allergy?
An allergy is a hypersensitive B lymphocyte response to an antigen that is normally harmless.
Where do B lymphocytes secrete antibodies?
Into lymph and blood where they make their way to an infected area
Are receptors of an antibody specific or non specific to one type of antigen?
Specific.
Where are B cells found?
Bone marrow
