What is meant by trans diagnostic
Moving away from diagnostic categories to focus on the common processes which may underlie multiple psychological disorders
Why take a trans diagnostic approach - give 4 reasons
Many health care professionals are not rained in diagnosis
Diagnostic categories can be useful but may also limit therapist and client understand
People’s difficulties often do not fit neatly into the categories
Client goals may not match the goals of disorder specific therapy

What are the risks of experimental avoidance
Some degree of avoidance is okay even sometimes necessary but there is a point where it becomes problematic
May prevent processing and healing
Valued goals and pursuits may be sacrificed
What is acceptance and commitment therapy
Increase awareness of how much energy we spend escaping from things
Promoting active acceptance of internal experiences
Focus our energy on what’s really important
Willingness to listen and allow feelings acceptance
