Training
Process that involves increasing the knowledge and skills of a worker to enable them to do their job more effectively.
Induction training
Training given to new employees when they first start a job.
On-the-job training
Training that takes place while doing the job.
Examples: Shadowing, Mentoring, Job rotation
Advantages: relevant to job, cheaper and easy to organise.
Disadvantages: stressful to employees, output is reduced, could be a danger to consumers.
Off-the-job training
Training that takes place away from the work area.
Advantages: output unaffected, consumers not at risk, benefit of others expertise
Disadvantages: expensive, some aspects cannot be taught, takes time
Health and safety
Due to potential danger, training must be enforced to protect workers: using safety equipment/clothing, hygiene, protection from harassment, hazardous materials.
