every time the animal is presented in the hospital
Hyperthermic
elevated body temperature
Normothermic
normal body temperature
Hypothermic
body temperature below normal
Feline normal temperature
38-39 C
Canine normal temperature
37.5-39 C
Bradycardic
decrease in heart rate
Tachycardic
increase of heart rate
Hypotension
low blood pressure
Hypertension
high blood pressure
Pulse deficit
heart rate and pulse don’t match
Arrhythmias
rhythm of the heart
Feline heart rate
150-210 bpm
Canine heart rate
> 25kg: 70-100 bpm
<25kg: 90-160 bpm
Respiration
count inhalation or exhalation for 10 or 15 seconds then multiply by appropriate amount
Tachypnea
rapid breathing
Bradypnea
decreased/slow breathing
Apnea
temporary sensation of breath or no breath at all
Feline respiration
8-30 bpm
Canine respiration
8-20 bpm
Hypoxemia
levels of oxygen in the blood are lower than normal
CRT
capillary refill time
Skin turgor
assess hydration status
Mentation
state of the animal’s mental activity
