What are main risks associated with TPN?
Infection, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia.
If TPN contains >10% dextrose how must we administer it? <10% dextrose how can we administer this?
CVC. PIV.
What are some important assessments we would want to do for someone on TPN?
In/out, VS, blood glucose q 6 hr x 48 hr or as per doctors orders, weight, labs, ensure components of TPN are checked and correct before administering.
A fat droplet ___ cm and larger … we cannot administer TPN

What are indications for TPN?
Hyperemesis gravidarum, exacerbation of ulcerative colitis or Chrons, patient is unable to eat for at least 7 days.
What are five components of TPN?
Glucose, amino acid, lipids, vitamins, electrolytes.
