What is involved in a focused assessment of a CVC?
Site condition, redness, swelling, drainage, clamps if present, line condition, external segment length, CXR to determine appropriate placement.
If IV tubing came apart at the CVAD catheter and the clamps were open… what would you do?
Clamp, call for help, left trendelenburg, O2, VS
If collecting a blood sample from a CVC for a R and M how can we collect this? For a C and S?

How often are we changing the CVC caps?
Every 7 days, PRN and after blood draws.
In what instances would we hep lock CVCs?
If the CVC is non-valved and not in use.
How many mL are we flushing a CVC with? Post blood draw? How often are we flushing CVCs?
10-20. 20. After every medication and q 24 h if not in use.
What things are important to monitor if your patient has a CVC?
Air embolus, CXR, external segment, and site.
How often do we flush PICCs in use? Not in use?
After every medication. q 7 days.
