What were the Townshend Duties? What did they affect?
Duties were introduced on the imports of glass, wine, china, lead, paint, paper and tea
Why were the colonies suspicious of the Townshend Duties?
colonials like Benjamin Franklin argued against the Stamp Act saying that the British had no right to tax internally –> could be argued British listened HOWEVER, the successive attempts by the British to introduce new taxes nor tighten up the collection of old duties during the 1760s meant that most colonists were highly sus of Britain’s intentions
