What were the aims of the Tea Act in 1773?
attempt to shore up the EIC - allowed EIC to directly trade w America, rather than the mercantilist principle that everything must be traded through British ports
What was thrown into the sea on the 16th December?
tea - about £10,000 worth of cargo
How did Britain respond to that ?
the British response was to try to isolate Boston + Massacheussets and lock down the city/state under miliary control
-> punish the colony, but they underestimated the extent of intercolonial linkd and the level to which partiot support already existed in the other colonies
What is the name of the act introduced in 1774?
The Coercive Acts
