Tour of A Cell Flashcards
What are lysosomes and why are they?
Lysosomes are fun little sacs full of digestive enzymes. They merge with food vacuoles to digest the food.
What is the Golgi Complex and what purpose does it serve?
The Golgi Complex takes vesicles from the Endoplasmic reticulum and “activates” the proteins inside them.
What do food vacuoles do?
Food vacuoles hold food.
What is a vesicle?
A vesicle is a fun little double walled sac that carries fun little things in it to wherever it needs to go.
How do vesicles go into the things they need to go into?
Vesicles go into the things they need to go into by first merging their first outer layer with the outer layer of the destination organelle, and then merging their second layer with the second layer of the destination organelle.
Endocytosis. What?
Endocytosis is the process by which stuff gets into a cell. An inverted bump forms in the cell membrane that gets bigger and bigger and then finally pinches off to form a vesicle.
Exocytosis. What?
Exocytosis is the process by which stuff gets out of a cell. A vesicle bumps into a wall and combines with the first and second layers of the cell membrane. The cell wall opens up and allows the contents of the now-destroyed vesicle to leave.
What exactly is the function of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum?
The Smooth ER creates lipids and steroids. The Smooth ER also sacrifices itself to deal with toxic substances
What microscope can see into the cell?
Electron Microscope BABY LETS GOOO!
What is the meaning of the weird word called “Invagination” :(
Invagination is a process by which a thing folds in on itself to form like a pouch or bag or something.
How does the prokaryote move,
They move with cilia which have a rowing motion!
How does sperm move?
Sperm moves with a flagellum which looks like a tail and has a whiplash motion
Peroxisomes? What they do? Come on dawg? Answer it nerd.
They break down molecules by oxidization
