Topisms In Plants Flashcards
Phototropism in shoots
Positively phototropic
Accumulates more auxin on the side in the shade.
Auxin stimulates growth in shoots, so the cells on the shaded side elongate faster, so shoot bends towards the light.
Geotropism in shoots
Negatively geotropic
Accumulates auxin on the lower side.
Auxin stimulates growth in shoots, so the lower side grows faster, bending the shoot upwards.
Phototropism in Roots
Negatively phototropic
Accumulates more auxin on the shaded side.
Auxin inhibits growth in roots, so root grows away from light.
Geotropism in roots
Positively geotropic
Accumulates auxin on the lower side.
Auxin inhibits growth in roots, so the top side grows faster, bending the shoot downwards.
