Genotype definition
The combination of alleles
Phenotype definition
The expressed chararacteristics
Gene definition
A length of DNA which codes for a specific characteristic/protein.
A gene is one section of a chromosome.
Allele definition
A different form of the same gene, that codes for different versions of a protein.
Homozygous definition
Alleles are the same
Heterozygous definition
Alleles are different
Dominant definition
A doninant allele only needs one allele present to be expressed
Recessive definition
A recessive allele needs two alleles to be present to be expressed
Codominant definition
Neither allele is recessive, so characteristics from both alleles are expressed.
(e.g. blood group AB)
What is meant by non-overlapping codons?
Each codon codes for one amino acid.
Bases are not shared between codons.
