Topic - Heat Flashcards
When electricity flows in a wire, what happens?
Heat is lost
How can we reduce the amount of heat that is lost in electricity?
By raising the voltage which then lowers the current
In a house, how does heat move?
From regions of high temperature to regions of lower temperature
Why is it essential to reduce these losses?
Save Money, Save Energy Resources, Reduce Pollution, Reduce Global Warming
What are the three ways that Heat can move?
Conduction, Convection and Radiation
What happens in Conduction?
They are solids so they vibrate as they are heated
What happens in Convention?
The particles, which are solids and liquids, cool down ans sink. The hot particles then rise
So then what happens in Radiation?
Hot objects radiate heat energy
What type of waves are in Radiation?
Infra Red
How is heat lost in a home?
10% lost through unecessary droughts, 35% lost through external walls 25% lost through roof 15% heat lost through doors and windows 10% lost through exposed floors
