Herschel And Ritter Flashcards
What did Ritter discover?
Ultraviolet radiation
What was the only part of EM spectrum we knew of before Herschel’s discovery?
Visible light
What did Herschel do?
Herschel used a prism to create a spectrum on a screen
He then used a thermometer to measure each colours temperature
In Herschel’s discovery, what were the temperatures?
The temperature of each colour was different, but the temperature increases from violet to red
After finding the temperature of each colour, what did Herschel do next?
He then measured the temperature just past the red part of the spectrum where there was no visible light
Here he found the highest temperature of all, so he realised this high temp must of been cause by a type of infra red radiation
What did Herschel find?
Infra red radiation
