Topic 8 Fluid Systems Flashcards
Hydraulic systems
A device that transmits an applied force through a liquid to move something else by means of pressure. eg. Dentist or hairdressers chair.
Pneumatic systems
A system in which a gas, such as air, transmits a force exerted on the gas in an enclosed space. eg. dentist precision drill or a tire jack.
how do compressors work
compressors compress air, air pressure builds up and when released, the compressed air decompresses, producing a strong and steady force.
why do aerosols no longer contain chlorohydrocarbons
because it damaged the ozone layer
what happens when an enclosed gas transmits force
it causes motion
how does an aerosol work
particles always flow from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure.
when high energy gas particles are squeezed into strong walled containers, they exit through holes or cracks with great force. If a liquid is also present the gas will push a fine foam or spray as the liquids particles as it exists.
