Q

what are the 5 points to particle model of matter

A
  1. All substances are made of tiny particles.
  2. All particles in a pure substance are the same, different pure substance are made of different particles
  3. The particles all have space between them
  4. The particles are always in motion. The speed of the particles increases when heat is added and decreases when heat is taken away.
  5. The particles in a substance are attracted to one another. The strength of the attractive forces depend on the type of particle

Q

Changes of state

A
  1. Melting/fusion- the process of changing from a solid to a liquid.
  2. freezing/solidification- The process of changing a liquid to a solid.
  3. Condensation/evaporation- the process of changing from a gas to a liquid.
  4. Vaporization- The process of changing from a liquid to a gas. Note that evaporation is a slowere form of vaporization and boiling is a faster form of vaporization.
  5. Sublimation- The process of going from a solid to a gas or a gas to a solid without going through the liquid state.
the relationship between solid and gas is always sublimation.
