Q

test for the evolution of CO2 and heat from respiring seeds or other living organisms

A
  1. add hydrogencarbonate indicator solution into 4 separate test tube
  2. add a mesh layer to each test tube and add live maggots, dead peas, live peas and plastic beads to each test tube.
  3. place a rubber bung over each test tube
  4. record the original colour of the hydrogen carbonate indicator
  5. leave for an hour and then record the colour again
  6. if it remains red, the solution is neutral. if it turns yellow, the solution is more acidic as CO2 has been released - indicator of respiration
