Q

What is genetic engineering?

A

-viruses and plasmids are known as vectors when they introduce new genes to cells
-we use vectors to transfer genes to another
The genetically modified organism gains a useful characteristic or makes a valuable product

Q

Where can genetic information be transferred?

A
  • from one cell to another
  • this can happen naturally
  • eg. Viruses insert genes into the dna of a host cell
  • bacteria pass genes naturally from one to another in plasmids

Q

How is the process of genetic engineering done?

A
  • to identify the required gene in the source chromosome
  • the gene is cut out using an enzyme
