Topic 4 - DNA and The Production Of Proteins Flashcards
0
Q
What does DNA carry?
A
The genetic information for the synthesis of proteins
1
Q
How is DNA structured?
A
A double stranded helix which remains in the nucleus
2
Q
What are the base pairs?
A
The two dna strands are held together by complementary base pairs:
- A (adenine) always pairs with T (thymine)
- C (cytosine) always pairs with G (guanine)
3
Q
What do the 4 bases make up?
A
A genetic code as the base sequence determines the order of amino acids in protein
4
Q
What is the function of Messenger RNA (mRNA)?
A
Carries a copy and of the code from the nucleus to a ribosome where the protein is assembled from amino acids
