Topic 6-C8 Flashcards
What is a the equation for rate of reaction
Amount of reactant used OR amount of product form/time
Explain the basis of collision theory
Collision theory that the reaction depends on:
Collision frequency of particles
Collision energy of particles
Energy you need to start a reaction is the
Activation energy
What are the four factors that affect rate of reaction+explain
Temperature-faster particles and more energy
Concentration/Pressure-more collisions as particles are closer
Surface area-more collisions as more area is exposed
Catalyst-lowers activation energy
What are the 3 ways that to measure rate of reaction+aparatus
Precipitation/colour change-vision
Change in mass-balance
Volume of gas given off-gas syringe
What is a reversible reaction
A reaction where the products can react to make the reactants again
What is Le Chateliers principle
The idea that if you change a condition in a reversible reaction the system will shift to counter act that change
What are the 3 ways reversible reactions can be changed
Change in:
Temperature
Pressure
Concentration
How does temperature affect a reversible reaction
If you increase the temperature, the reaction will shift towards the endothermic direction. If you decrease temperature, the reaction will shift in the exothermic direction
How does pressure affect a reversible reaction
If you increase the pressure, the reaction will shift towards the side that has less molecules. If you decrease the pressure, the reaction will shift towards the side that has more molecules. Only works with gases
How does concentration affect a reversible reaction
If you increase the concentration of the reactants then more products will be made. If you increase the concentration of the product then more products will be made.
