Topic 5b- Quantitative analysis (paper 1) Flashcards
1
Q
What is a titration?
A
Titration is an experiment that allows you to see what volume of reactant is needed to react completely with another substance.
2
Q
Why might the actual yield of a reaction be less than the theoretical yield of a reaction?
A
- incomplete reactions
- practical losses during the experiment
- competing, unwanted side reactions
3
Q
What factors should be taken into account when choosing a reaction pathway?
A
- atom economy
- percentage yield (the higher the % yield, the less reactants are wasted → cheaper production)
- rate of reaction
- position of equilibrium (if the reaction is reversible)
