Topic 5 - Homeostasis and response Flashcards
What is the nervous system
Organisms respond to stimuli to stay alive
What is the Central nervous system
in invertebrates this consist of the brain and spinal cord only
where does the Sensory neurons carry impulses to
the neurons that carry information as electrical impulses from Receptors to CNS
What are the motor neurons
carry electrical impulses from the CNS to effectors
What are the Effectors
all muscles and glands respond to nerve impulses
What are the Receptors
Receptors are cells that detect stimuli
different types of receptors
taste on tongue and sound in ears
what do receptors form (eye)
the retina of the eye is covered in light receptors cells
What are the synapses
synapses connect neurons
the connection between two neurons is called a synapse
What are the Reflexes
reflexes are rapid, automatic responses to certain stimuli.
where does the reflex arc go through
goes through the central nervous system
reflex step by step
bee stings finger stimulation of the pain receptors impulses travel along the sensory neuron impulses pass through a relay neuron by synapse impulse travel motor neuron by synapse reaches muscle then contracts
What is the Endocrine system
way to send information through the body using hormones
what do The pituitary glands do
They produce hormones that regulate body condition
what do Ovaries (Females only) do
Produce oestrogen which is for the menstrual cycle
